GM India Introduces an All New Stylish Chevrolet Cruze

New Delhi – General Motors India has launched an all new Chevrolet Cruze in the market. The new Cruze with stylish & luxurious jet black interiors and additional features priced at Rs. 11, 92,602 (ex-showroom, Delhi) will be available across all Chevrolet dealerships in the country from now onwards.
Launching the new model, Mr. Karl Slym, President & Managing Director, General Motors India said, “The new Cruze combines powerful performance with jet-black interiors that redefine luxury. The introduction of the new Chevrolet Cruze is a testament to the importance that GM India attaches to maximize customer satisfaction. At GM India, we always try to work on the feedback we receive from our customers. We have made some exciting changes in the Cruze to make it even more alluring and attractive, Mr. Slym added”
The striking feature of the new Cruze is the interiors which are now jet black in color with contrasting titanium colored stitch lines, thereby making it appealing and inviting. The luxurious appeal is further enhanced by its power packed 2.01 VCDi diesel engine and a push-button start and advanced technology with electric sunroof all of which make the vehicle the biggest and most sought after in its segment.
The new Chevrolet Cruze will be available in two different colors, Switch Blade Silver and Sandrift Grey in three variants LT, LTZ & LTZ AT. It also offers a host of new features depending on the various models including:

GM India showcases the Chevrolet Beat Battery Electric Vehicle in demo program

Leading a ‘tailored for India’ demo program, General Motors India today showcased the Chevrolet Beat Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) as part of the ongoing celebrations of World Environment Day. The demonstration vehicle will be used by GM India to showcase the effectiveness of battery electric vehicle technology in India.  GM India engineers will also use the vehicle to address potential cost savings to help make BEVs more affordable for global customers.   
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Karl Slym, President & Managing Director, General Motors India said, “General Motors is committed to providing customers around the world with electrification technologies that will reduce their fuel consumption, helping them save money.  GM India will lead in this ‘tailored for India’ demo program for battery electric technology, with Chevrolet Beat chosen as the best way to evaluate the technology. We are delighted that Chevrolet selected India as an important market to test battery electric technology, while recognizing the capabilities of our engineering team to help identify ways to make this technology more affordable.”
Powered by a 300 cell lithium-ion battery with a total energy capacity of approximately 20 kWh, the 270 kg battery can power the Beat for at least 130 km under normal driving conditions. The liquid cooled battery can operate in temperatures ranging from approximately -20℃to 45℃, with charge times of less than 8 hours using a 240V outlet. Power from the battery is transferred to the drive wheels through a single speed drive unit and an electric motor producing approximately 45kW of power.
This demonstration project is the latest example of GM’s commitment to be a leader in the development of vehicle electrification technologies. GM has already announced demonstration programs in Korea, China and Germany.  The company is committed to delivering customers around the world with electrification solutions that best fit their lives, including the industry’s first extended-range electric vehicles: Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera.
Learnings from this demonstration fleet, and others around the world, will strengthen GM’s core vehicle electrification competencies including batteries, electric motors and power electronic and controls, and charging. GM India is already offering a range of alternate fuel vehicles including Chevrolet Beat LPG, Chevrolet Spark LPG and Chevrolet Aveo CNG to its valued customers.
GM has already established battery leadership. It has one of the most advanced battery labs in the world at its Technical Center in Warren, Michigan in the United States and will be opening a new battery lab in China soon.

Vehicle Outline
(a) Exterior
Etios Liva is designed around the concept of ‘Bold Simplicity’. A cutting-edge and leading design that aims for a body frame and stance that stands out in a crowd. A distinctive front grille with a smile line, sculpted surface and dynamic character-line in the front and rear, enhance the presence of the Etios Liva. The aero kit – with front and rear bumper skirt, side skirt and roof spoiler. The roof has a unique design for better aerodynamics and clean appearance.
(b) Interior
The two toned ergonomically designed interiors are comfortable and sporty. The area surrounding the driver’s seat is given the image of a cockpit by separating the operating zone from the display zone.     Tata Motors unveils Assembly Plant in South Africa

    Tata Motors (SA) (Proprietary) Ltd., Tata Motors' joint venture with Tata Africa Holding (Pty) Ltd., today formally opened its assembly plant in South Africa at Rosslyn, north of Pretoria, in the Gauteng province of South Africa. The establishment of the plant is a major step towards bolstering the operations and presence of the Tata Group in South Africa.

    The plant was inaugurated by South Africa's Minister of Trade & Industry, Dr. Rob Davies, in the presence of top dignitaries from South Africa and India. Among them were Mr. Noel N. Tata, Managing Director, Tata International, Mr. Carl-Peter Forster, Group CEO and Managing Director, Tata Motors, Mr. Raman Dhawan, Managing Director, Tata Africa, as well as dealers and key associates of the company.

    Established with an investment of R110 million, the plant can assemble, from semi knocked down (SKD) kits, light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles ranging from 4 tonnes to 50 tonnes, with an annualised capacity of 3,650 vehicles. The capacity can be further expanded as required. The plant has been awarded with ISO 9001 accreditation by Bureau Veritas, South Africa. To begin with, it is assembling two models, the Tata LPT 813 and Tata LPT 1518, both already popular in South Africa.

    Speaking at the event, Dr. Rob Davies said that the launch of the plant can be attributed to South Africa's investment friendly policies. He said that the project comes at a time when the department is aggressively pursuing an industrial development strategy for the South African Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) sector.

    "The key focus area of the MHCV strategy is based on: Support for Market Development (Local and Regional), development of OEM Production Capabilities and the Strengthening of the Supply Chains (1st tier Supplier base). Industry role players have and still are part of the extensive consultation process that accompanies the development of such a strategy. This will be an opportunity for further expansion of Tata Motors in South Africa," added Dr. Davies

    Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Carl-Peter Forster said, "With a comprehensive product portfolio, Tata Motors is now at a stage where it can consolidate its international business in its chosen markets. The assembly plant in South Africa is an expression of that resolve. Step by step, we shall expand the footprint of our international business matching markets and products."

    Mr. P. M. Telang, Managing Director - India Operations, Tata Motors, said, "We are very proud to commence assembly operations in South Africa, which has traditionally been among our focus countries. It is integral to Tata Motors' international business presence and plans. The company has already carved a niche for itself in the country and is confident of greater opportunities."

    Built over a period of 18 months, the plant is spread over an area of 34,500 sq. metres. In line with latest world-class manufacturing practices, the plant has been equipped with state-of-the-art equipment following lean manufacturing principles. It has built-in flexibilities to assemble large numbers and different variants in mixed mode production, to meet the requirements of the South African market.

    The entire capital outlay, encompassing civil and plant engineering work for the facility, has been sourced from and carried out by South African suppliers and companies. In addition, all major equipment, like heavy duty cranes, inversion mechanisms and paint booth, have also been sourced from South African vendors. The entire workforce of the plant is from South Africa.

    Training, skill transfer and development of local workforce is one of the top priorities of the Tata Group in South Africa. The Tata Group's training processes and facilities in India have been acknowledged as among the best. Leveraging this expertise through a robust local skill transfer and apprentice programme, Tata Motors South Africa is committed to ensuring that skill levels of individuals employed in various industrial trades, such as auto mechanic, welder, painter etc, are further enhanced. Tata has an already established state-of-the-art technical training centre in Germiston, Johannesburg, operating since 2006, for skill development of dealer mechanics in South Africa and various other countries in the continent.

    Tata Motors started exports to South Africa in 1998, with commercial vehicles. Exports of passenger vehicles began in 2004. Currently there are over 20 commercial vehicle models -- �from pick-ups  to 49-tonne prime movers and from 14-seater buses to luxury coaches -- and 5 passenger vehicle models -- Tata Indica Vista, Tata Indica, Tata Indigo, Tata Indigo SW and Tata Safari in diesel & petrol variants -- catering to the needs of the South African market. The company has thus far exported over 32,000 commercial vehicles and 31,000 passenger vehicles to the country. Tata Motors' vehicles are available across 85 dealerships, through M/s Accordian Investments (Pty) Ltd., the distributor for light commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles, and M/s Tata Automobile Corporation SA (Pty) Ltd., the distributor for medium and heavy commercial vehicles.

    Jaguar Land Rover opens new dealership in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

    Jaguar Land Rover yesterday (26th June 2011) officially opened its new dealership in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The opening of this dealership is part of Jaguar Land Rover's continued expansion in the Indian market.
    The state of the art dealership will improve access to customers from West Bengal and provide premium Jaguar Land Rover standards of sales, servicing and after sales.
    Based in the up market AJC Bose Road, the Kolkata dealership will enable customers to access the full range of Jaguar products including the XJ (in both diesel and petrol engine variants), XF (in both diesel and petrol engine variants), XFR and the XKR Coupe and Convertible. For Land Rover, it will offer the Freelander 2, Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport and the flagship Range Rover.

    Tata Nano launched in Nepal

    Tata Motors today launched the Tata Nano in Nepal. The car will be on sale across Nepal through the company's distributor, Sipradi Trading Pvt. Ltd., at 14 Sipradi owned & Sipradi authorised dealer showrooms.

    Speaking on the introduction of the Tata Nano in Nepal, Mr. Johnny Oommen, Head - International Business (Passenger Vehicles), Tata Motors, said, "We are delighted to introduce the Tata Nano in Nepal.     The introductory price of the Tata Nano in Nepal is NPR 7.98 lakhs. In the first phase, bookings will be open for 10 days, starting from today. All the 3 variants will be available for booking at 14 Sipradi owned & Sipradi authorised dealer showrooms. The Nano Standard can be booked for NPR 10,000, the Nano CX for NPR 20,000 and the Nano LX for NPR 30,000. The EMI for the Tata Nano will be as low as NPR 11,111.

    To mark the Tata Nano's introduction, Tata Motors and Sipradi have begun a country-wide rally, called the "Nano Yatra Nepal", which started on June 1 in Kathmandu. During the journey, two Tata Nanos will cover about 40,000 km, visiting 15 landmark destinations. The drive, which has so far covered over 6,000 km, is providing customers in Nepal with a visible testimony to the Tata Nano's robustness and reliability.

    Tata Manza associates with Wayne Brady

    Tata Manza has associated with Wayne Brady, an internationally acclaimed stand up English comedian. Wayne Brady will be performing for the 1st time in India and Tata Manza will be the official vehicle sponsor for his shows.
